Teachers and parents recognize that:
-All that is worth knowing cannot be taught or learned in the classroom environment;
-Co-curricular school activities can provide appropriate challenges and avenues to achievement and help establish a balance between educating for academic growth and educating for transition to self-hood. OIS endeavors to provide a program of student activities designed to develop self-directed, responsible social interaction in an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation, and to provide the opportunity for each student to develop interests, skills and attitudes which contribute to the worthwhile use of leisure time.

We encourage every child at OIS to find their niche in our school and become a part of one of the programs or activities being offered. We feel that by encouraging children to explore opportunities for growth and learning we are best preparing them to leave the school environment and enter the society.

We ask you to support your child in finding activities that best meet their needs and interests. Parents are also an active part of our activities here at OIS and we invite you to be a part of the programming here as much as you are able and welcome your participation in our activities at whatever level you choose.

The clubs and activities listed in this guide are clubs available to the students at OIS. The clubs and activities offered in any given year are determined by faculty sponsorship and interest. Clubs are subject to cancelation based upon attendance. In order to provide an enriching environment, some clubs may require a small fee.

Attendance is mandatory for all clubs. Students, who have two unexcused absences from a club, will be dropped from the club.

ART CLUB

art

At the beginning of the club, the students focus on basic artistic concepts and techniques such as composition, perspective, distance and shading. These initial basic building blocks enable the students to gain confidence in exploring art and to attempt simple still life compositions. Students start by using pencil and paper. After enough improvement, drawings switch from basic drawing techniques to basic linear drawing, from paper to canvas, and from pencil to paint. During this period, students are thought basic brush techniques and use of color. After that, students begin 'project assignments'. Using the techniques developed previously, the students learn how to apply these to landscape pictures providing practice in drawing-together concepts such as perspective, composition, measurement and detail.

Also, students can learn another culture, it would be pleasure for them.

FRENCH LANGUAGE CLUB

From this Academic Year 2015/2016 the second foreign language for Grade 9 is German. However I know that some of them are interested in French.
I think a French club would be a good idea - we can give them the chance to start French.

ARABIC CLLUB

The aim of the club to improve the students' knowledge of the Classical Arabic language.

Study the alphabet, writing, talking with correct pronunciation- basically literary language with some Middle Eastern dialects. Reading dialogues and texts, playing and memorizing vocabulary, preparing and practice different kind of exercises, discuss about the culture, essential behavior and life.

TEACH YOUR LANGUAGE, TEACH YOUR CULTURE!

The goal of the club is to get know the culture of each other better, because the students come from other countries and speak different languages. That is why I am planning a multicultural club, where we are going to organise Chinese-week's, Arabic-weeks, Turkish-weeks, Hungarian-weeks etc. The students are going to give an introduction to the native language (alphabet, pronunciation, vocabulary, mini-grammar, greetings), after discussion. Then they can give a presentation in English about feasts, holidays, special habits, weather, eating and drinking.

kung fuKUNG-FU CLUB

We teach the inner-games of self-esteem, success, and joy as a foundation for greater academic, social and behavioural excellence. Our club can accelerate a student's learning beyond any perceived limitations that they may have had.
Our programs work hand in hand with a child's school work, providing improved self-discipline, self-confidence, mental alertness, and goal setting skills.
Young people are taught that through dedication and remaining focused, all worthwhile goals in life are possible. Parents have attributed their child's improved school grades as a direct result of our program; improved achievement, motivation, and self-confidence come as a direct result of our training.

HISTORY EXAM PREPARATION

The purpose of this club is to help final-year students to prepare for the school-leaving (Hungarian 'érettségi') examination. It focuses on the revision of the main topics listed in the examination requirements ('érettségi vizsgakövetelmények') as well as completing exam-type tasks in writing and in speech.
There is no specific supply requirements for these sessions; students have bring their notebooks, pens and pencils for the lessons.
